How to Pay

Families may pay for school meals in one of three ways: by setting up an online payment account, by submitting a check or by paying cash. Detailed information on payment methods is outlined below.

  • Online - MySchoolBucks is a user-friendly service that is free, convenient, private and secure. Once the account is open, parents can check the fund account at anytime. Parents can also receive an e-mail notification when the balance is low. More information is available at 1-800-479-3531 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please note: You will need your child’s Student ID number to register or access information on myschoolbucks.com.
  • Check - Write a check made out to Laurel Hill Cafeteria and send the check to the cafeteria with the child in the morning. When paying by check, please indicate on the memo portion of the check if your child is to get breakfast and lunch only and no “extra” items (pretzels, ice cream, etc.). Just write “lunch” or “lunch only” on that line. If your child is allowed to purchase these “extras,” do not make any notation on that line.

When your child’s account balance drops to the equivalent of two lunches, the cashier will stamp his/her hand with “I need lunch money” or give him/her a sticker. You will also receive a Keep in Touch message from the food service department if your e-mail address is on file.

  • Cash - Cash may be brought to the food services manager’s office for deposit on student’s account, or students may pay cash on a daily basis

If the student's SchoolBucks Account is out of money, they will still be given a complete lunch that will be charged to their account-thereby creating/adding to a negative account balance that can be rectified by adding money to their account.

Bringing Lunch from Home

Your child may also bring lunch from home and buy milk or juice. If you send a lunch to school, please also send the utensils necessary to eat it. These items are not sold separately.

At Laurel Hill we promote healthy lunches. Therefore, please do not send any canned sodas or bottled beverages with your child.

Free/Reduced Price Meals

Free/Reduced Lunches are available for qualified families. Applications are available online or by contacting FCPS Food and Nutrition at 703-813-4800. You must apply each year to remain eligible.

The forms and information are completely confidential and will not be shared with teachers or administrators, and no other children will ever know. The children use PIN numbers to purchase their food, and only the food services manager knows how much each child pays for the meal.

Join Your Child for Lunch!

Parents are always welcome to visit their children at lunchtime. No advance notice is needed; just check-in in the Front Office and meet your child in the Cafeteria. We do ask that you not bring meals purchased in restaurants into the Cafeteria for you or your child (or other children) to eat. Please bring healthy food from home or purchase an adult lunch at school.
