Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
We continue to practice due diligence in the morning for student safety and we are asking for your help! Please do not drop off your children until 9:05 a.m. There is no supervision for them until 9:05 a.m. Patrols arrive at 8:50. Follow the Kiss and Ride drop off loop as pictured in the diagram below. All cars turn RIGHT to enter the school, stay in a single file line and turn RIGHT to exit the school. Drive slowly and stay off your cell phones. Students must exit on the right side of the car and parents must stay in their vehicles in the drop off lane. If you park and walk your child to the main entrance please use the crosswalk, as there is a staff member on duty there. The safety of our children is everyone’s responsibility!
Morning Arrival Procedures
Our school hours are 9:20 a.m. to 4:05 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Doors will open at 9:05 a.m. Children grades 1-6 will enter through the front doors and will go directly to their classrooms. All kindergarten students will enter through Door #2 to meet their teacher in the cafeteria. Walkers and Kiss & Ride (car riders) should arrive at school no earlier than 9:05 a.m.
Breakfast is served from 9:05 until 9:15 a.m. Children will pick up a bagged breakfast from the cafeteria and take it to their classroom to eat.
Late Arrivals
A child arriving after 9:20 a.m. is recorded as TARDY. If your child arrives after 9:20 a.m., you must park your car, bring your child into the Main Office, and sign him or her in in the Tardy logbook.
If your child is going to be late or absent for the entire day, please call the school attendance line (703-551-5353) before 9:20 a.m. If the school does not receive a call from the parent, the absence/tardy will be recorded as unexcused. Please see Absences & Attendance for more information.
Afternoon Dismissal Procedures
At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed from their classrooms on the basis of how they go home (SACC, bus riders, walkers, Kiss & Ride). Please make sure your child knows how they go home. If your family is choosing Kiss & Ride the driver will drive through the Kiss & Ride line and remain in their car until their child comes to them.
- Kindergarten walkers will be dismissed through the Cafeteria (Door #2). Families will be expected to show their card number at the door. Kindergarten Kiss & Ride will be brought to their car by a patrol.
- Walkers in grades 1-6 will exit through the main entrance (Door #1). If families want to meet a child that is a walker, they should pick a spot out front as a designated meeting place. Walkers in grades 1 through 6 DO NOT need a Kiss & Ride number. Kiss & Ride is reserved for families remaining in their vehicles.
- Kiss & Ride students in grades 1-2 will exit through the cafeteria door (Door #2). Students will go directly to their vehicles once their Kiss & Ride number is displayed in the cafeteria. Patrols and LHES staff will be monitoring these students. Families with Kiss & Ride students please remain in your car and wait for your student to come to you.
- Kiss & Ride students in grades 3-6 will exit through the main entrance (Door #1). Students will be coming from their classroom when they see their Kiss & Ride number displayed. Families with Kiss & Ride students please remain in your car and wait for your student to come to you.
- Buses depart from the parking lot on the west side of the school. Please do not park in this lot during the school day.

Picking Up Your Child Early
Anyone picking up a student during school hours must provide a picture ID to office staff. We will not release a student after 3:30.
Children will not be called to the office until the parent/guardian arrives in the office, so please plan your arrival time accordingly.
Students will be released only to people other than a parent/guardian when the school has permission from the parent/guardian through listing on the Emergency Care Form, a written letter, or a phone call to the school office.
