Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Kiss&Ride ProceduresWe continue to practice due diligence in the morning for student safety and we are asking for your help!  Please do not drop off your children until 9:00 a.m. There is no supervision for them until 9 a.m.   Patrols arrive at 8:50.   Follow the Kiss and Ride drop off loop as pictured in the diagram below.  All cars turn RIGHT to enter the school, stay in a single file line and turn RIGHT to exit the school.   Drive slowly and stay off your cell phones.  Students must exit on the right side of the car and parents must stay in their vehicles in the drop off lane.  If you park and walk your child to the main entrance please use the crosswalk, as there is a staff member on duty there.  The safety of our children is everyone’s responsibility!

Morning Arrival Procedures

Our school hours are 9:20 a.m. to 4:05 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The best time to arrive each day is between 9 and 9:10 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Children may go to their classrooms at 9:10 a.m. This gives them time to put away their things and get ready for the day. Children who arrive before 9:10 will go to either the Cafeteria (grades K - 2) or the Gym (grades 3 - 6).

Please do not drop off your children too early. There is no supervision for them until 9 a.m.   Walkers and car riders should arrive at school no earlier than 9 a.m. Upon arrival after 9, children will report to the Cafeteria or the Gym and wait until their teachers pick them up at 9:10.

Breakfast is served from 9 until 9:15 a.m.  Children may eat breakfast if they arrive in the Cafeteria between 9 and 9:10 a.m.

Late Arrivals

A child arriving after 9:20 a.m. is recorded as TARDY. If your child arrives after 9:20 a.m., you must park your car, bring your child into the Main Office, and sign him or her in in the Tardy logbook.

If your child is going to be late or absent for the entire day, please call the school attendance line (703-551-5353) before 9:20 a.m. If the school does not receive a call from the parent, the absence/tardy will be recorded as unexcused. Please see Absences & Attendance for more information.

Afternoon Dismissal Procedures

At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed from their classrooms on the basis of how they go home (SACC, bus riders, walkers, Kiss & Ride).

  • Walkers in grades 1 through 6 will exit through the main entrance (Door #1) and parents are asked to wait for them there.
  • Kindergarten walkers will be dismissed through the Cafeteria (Door #2).
  • Kiss & Ride students will exit through the Cafeteria and will be called by number when their parents arrive at the front of the line. Numbers are issued at the beginning of the school year and should be displayed clearly on your windshield. Please see the Kiss & Ride section for more information.
  • Buses depart from the parking lot on the west side of the school. Please do not park in this lot during the school day.

Picking Up Your Child Early

Anyone picking up a student during school hours must provide a picture ID to office staff.

Children will not be called to the office until the parent/guardian arrives in the office, so please plan your arrival time accordingly.

Students will be released only to people other than a parent/guardian when the school has permission from the parent/guardian through listing on the Emergency Care Form, a written letter, or a phone call to the school office.
